Preview: Damsel in the Redwoods

I recently took a break from life as a motion graphic artist, photographer, and designer to contemplate those things that are most important to me. I decided to venture into the Redwood forests of Northern California to hike around, photograph and explore this mystical area. If you have never been to the Humboldt Redwoods State Park just south east of Eureka…go, now. This is a place place filled with the most lush forests I have ever seen outside of the Amazon. In fact, in certain parts it probably does rival the Amazon. Imagine trees so large it takes 20 seconds just to walk around their trunks. And the quiet. It is so spectacularly quiet. I can’t really remember even hearing any birds, bees or anything, though I knew they were there, watching.

This trip inspired me to start a photo series based on large tree groves in the world. The concept has not been fully developed, but what you see above is the direction I am going in. Basically I will be hiring local women to come pose naturally in a dream-like setting in the forest. This young woman, Erika Foster of Eureka, CA, was kind enough to meet me for a few hours and venture into the Redwoods for a test shoot. Eventually I will have collected enough images for a gallery showing and non-profit benefit. Anyone know of a ‘save the world’ non-profit that would like to help sponsor a show? There are many more shots to come, but I thought I would throw this out there to stir up some interest. More coming soon!

The Tropics

Friends For Life

Meet Kirsten and Sarah. Friends from the age of four years old. We did an impromptu shoot, reliving their playful past and almost got run off the road in the process. Stay alive, drive 25. Kirsten acted as designated Sherpa for the weekend and carried, pulled, and supported Sarah everywhere they went…much the same as in their childhood. Sarah lives very far from here and we are now working on a plan to get her stuck in Boulder so we can continually enjoy her company.

Maranda and Jordan Engaged

Congrats to Maranda and Jordan! We had such a fun shoot…despite 50 mph winds and sub zero temperatures. Their love is obvious and shines through it all. I seriously can’t wait to shoot their wedding in May, Maranda is part Native American and the ceremony will include a few traditions from their culture…pure awesome.
